THE FINE PRINT
Take a minute to familiarise yourself with our KSR procedures they might seem like the boring fine print but they're essential FOR keeping our community safe & happy & humming along!
Office Hours
Our official KSR Office Hours are 9am to 3.30pm Mondays and Wednesdays, but you can always catch up with staff on Slack if you have a question and can't locate anyone on site. After 5pm one of the Duty Managers or an RLC will be the assigned “Duty Manager” each day and you can contact them. This information is posted on the hallway notice board and office door.

Beginning of residency
On arrival, you will be asked to complete a room condition report. It is important that you do this carefully as the Manager(s) will check your room at the end of your residency and any damage could be taken from your bond.
Fire safety
The Res is equipped with a sprinkler system and fire alarm. There are signs posted around the Res, which indicate the evacuation procedure. There is one in each of your rooms, it is important that this is always visible and not removed from the rooms. Please take some time to look at these. From time-to-time, we will hold surprise fire drills to ensure that you are familiar with the procedure. Please do not hang anything off the sprinklers in your rooms as this can cause them to activate. Please also keep a clear path to each doorway to ensure you always have a safe exit.

First Aid
The people on site who are First Aid trained are Graeme Younger, Alex Donaldson and Hannah Hobbs.
Please see one of these people if you need First Aid assistance.
Maintenance & damage
Should you notice any aspects of the building or equipment in need of repair, please alert us via the "Maintenance" channel on Slack. Any urgent matter must be reported to the Manager or support staff immediately.
Cleaners
Our daily cleaning is carried out by Keen to Clean. Common areas and bathrooms are cleaned 5 days a week. Their job is not to throw out your rubbish, pick up your dishes etc. Please make sure you clean up after yourselves. Should you have any concerns with the cleaning, please speak to the Manager.
Room inspections
Your bedroom is your responsibility to keep clean and tidy while you're living at Res. This is important for health and safety reasons. We conduct 2 scheduled room inspections per year. You'll get a week's notice and feedback if anything needs to be followed up.
Light globes
Light globes are located in the cupboards between the dining the room and the first year side. Should the globe in your room stop working, please take a new globe and replace the old one. Please discard the blown globe appropriately.
Security & insurance
We do not use locks on the doors to private rooms, therefore it is imperative that all residents take responsibility for ensuring that outside doors and ground floor windows are kept locked. If there is someone in the Res and you are unsure if they should be there, please notify the Manager or duty staff member immediately.

Please take notice that the Residence insurance DOES NOT cover the personal belongings of residents. If you are bringing specific items of particular value with you to KSR, these may need to be privately insured or specifically itemised through your family home & contents insurance. Please do not enter other residents' rooms without their permission. Please do not leave any objects holding doors open (including fire escape) as this will compromise the security of the Residence.
Car Parking
Car parking places for students are limited. Four spaces are set aside for staff use: two for RLCs, one for Managers and one for the Kitchen Coordinator. From time to time, the carpark may be used for other events (especially weddings on the weekend). It is always used for church services on Sunday and so we ask that by 9:30am each Sunday morning all cars are parked elsewhere. This helps us show respect and kindness to those members of the church community who appreciate easy access to the church buildings.

Please be mindful of small children in the car park at all times. The Res does not own the carpark, but the Church allows us to use it. So do remember that you are not ‘entitled’ to a carpark space and that you need to use the space respectfully.
Bikes
Bikes are to be stored in the bike shed located at the front of the property. Please ask the Manager for the door code. Bikes are NOT permitted inside the main building. Any bikes not removed at the end of residency will be given away or thrown out. KSR will not be held responsible should you come to retrieve your bike and it is no longer there.
Telephones
It is assumed that residents have access to a mobile telephone. However, if for some reason you are not able to use your own personal phone, you may ask the Manager(s) if you can use the phone in the office. Please do not have people try to contact you on the office phone as it is only answered during business hours.
Mail is delivered to the letterbox next to the gates at the front of the building. If you see the mail, bring it in and sort it into the pigeonholes in the front foyer. The mail is sorted alphabetically (by surname).

Church Hall Bookings
Should you wish to use the Church hall to play sport or play music etc. you will need to make a booking in advance through the Church office. To do so, you can visit Regan the Church administrator, in the office or email him at admin@kewbaptist.org.au (office hours: Mon – Thurs, 9:00am – 3.30pm).
Visitors & Overnight Guests
Visitors are most welcome at KSR provided they too show respect for other residents and property, and that they leave by 11pm. When visitors require a meal, the cook needs to know before 12pm for that evening or there can be no guarantee of a meal. Simply mark +1 next to your name on the meal sheet for that day.

Visitors may stay overnight free of charge if the application for an Overnight Guest form has been approved by the Manager or RLC before 6pm of the same night. Please note that the form requires the signature of your roommate. It is important that you respect the fact that you share your bedroom and that your roommate may not like having to share their space too often.

For guests who had not gained permission to stay by the Manager or if visitors are staying for more than one night, a fee of $20 per night will be charged to their host. A fee will also be charged if people are having visitors for meals, and/or staying overnight on a regular basis. Please introduce your visitors to the staff member on duty.
Network & Internet
There is a technician who manages the KSR network externally. Should there be an issue that needs fixing, please provide as much information as possible and send this to info@kewstudentresidence.com.au.

All information on the network passes through a firewall and is logged. We wish to make it quite clear that this is standard practice in other residences, workplaces and educational institutions and should be treated as such. The Internet is provided primarily for educational purposes. We understand that this is your home and that the Internet will be used for recreational reasons also. However, should anyone’s use of the Internet be considered by the Manager(s) as having an unnecessary negative impact on the rest of the community, action will be taken.

The kinds of activity that particularly slow down the network for everyone else include streaming/downloading videos and other large files. While the Internet Usage Policy has already made clear that no illegal activity (such as downloading torrents etc.) is to take place, it should be remembered that legal downloading of large files such as Steam games is also prohibited because of the impact on others.

Please be aware that no student is to setup their own access point or attempt to make changes to any aspect of the network. Should you have suggestions, you are more than welcome to speak with the Manager.
In order to access the network, you will need to connect your device to the “KSR” wireless network. A unique username and password will be provided to each student at the start of their tenancy. Please contact the office if you do not receive this.

Once connected, you will need to authenticate through Cyberoam. A username and password will be sent to you on slack at the beginning of the year.
End of residency
At the end of residency, students will be asked to leave rooms as they were found, clean and without damage. Any repairs that need to be carried out (apart from normal wear and tear) will be taken out of the student's bond. Similarly, students will forfeit their bond money if they are responsible for the loss or damage of any other Residence property.
Re-application
Towards the end of the year, first year students will be asked to complete a re-application form for the following year. As the Manager(s) need to be aware of the number of places available to offer to new students, it is imperative that re-application forms are submitted by the date indicated on the form. Following the Manager’s acceptance of your re-admission, you will be required to pay a deposit to hold your place. Anyone who does not pay their deposit by the due date risks having their place filled by another student
